Special Crash Investigations (SCI) Program

As part of its mission, the NHTSA Special Crash Investigations (SCI) Program monitors and identifies ground ambulance crashes that involve serious or fatal injuries to an ambulance occupant. When such a crash is identified, SCI forwards the information to the NHTSA OEMS to determine if pursuit of an investigation would potentially provide substantive, relevant data that could be used to better protect EMS personnel and other ambulance occupants in future crashes.

NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program

The NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program (FFFIPP) identifies factors that cause or contribute to fire fighter deaths suffered in the line of duty. The program does not seek to determine fault or place blame on fire departments or individual fire fighters; rather, FFFIPP information is used by researchers and safety specialists to develop strategies to prevent these line-of-duty deaths, including those cause by ground ambulance crashes.

NIOSH Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation Program

Focusing on all fatal occupational injuries nationwide, the NIOSH Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation (FACE) Program indentifies high-risk work situations, formulates incident prevention strategies, and disseminates this information to individuals in the workplace who are in a position to implement change. All FACE final reports can be found on the program's home page. Links to FACE final reports on ground ambulance fatalities follow:
