The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) connects the best and most diverse students and faculty members to programs closely aligned with the interests of a variety of research facilities, including those managed for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and more than a dozen other federal agencies.

Current ORISE science education program opportunities include:

  • Undergraduate scholarships
  • Graduate fellowships
  • Postgraduate internships
  • Postdoctoral research opportunities
  • Faculty/student team research experiences
  • K-12 education programs

Realizing that it can take years to cultivate highly qualified scientific and technical talent, ORISE designs, implements, operates, and evaluates science education and workforce development programs for all levels in the academic continuum.

Our science education capabilities include:

Workforce Development

Workforce Analysis and Program Evaluation

ORISE identifies critical national needs in science education by analyzing labor trends, evaluating program outcomes and assessing educational technologies.

Science Education Program Administration

Program Administration

ORISE recruits a diverse pool of highly qualified students, faculty and postdoctoral participants and encourages them to participate in national scholarship, fellowship, internship and other science education programs.

Science Education Events

Science Education Events

ORISE manages high-profile, local and national education initiatives in an effort to create excitement and inspire teachers and students to pursue interests in scientific fields.

Science Education Mentor Training

The Center for Science Education serves as a national resource for featuring products, services and programs that can help make science, technology, engineering and math education more effective at all levels, from K-12 to postgraduate.

Current Opportunity

The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is assisting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the development of a database of faculty, researchers and professionals with demonstrated accomplishments in research areas related to EPA’s mission. These individuals may be asked to serve as reviewers for the EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Graduate Fellowship Program.

The STAR program is open to master’s and doctoral students pursuing degrees in environmental fields of study. The STAR program encourages the development of the next generation of scientific and technical talent in the United States.

ORISE will be managing the review of applications in collaboration with the EPA. If you would like to be considered as a potential reviewer, please take a moment to register. Reviewers will be contacted in January to confirm their selection and to verify their availability to serve as a reviewer during the scheduled review period.

If you have questions regarding the review process, contact epa-star@orise.orau.gov.
