Acting Associate Director

The Office of the Associate Director (OAD) develops and implements the mission and scientific and strategic agenda of the Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program (EGRP). Its functions include scientific cohort and consortia coordination, knowledge integration and management activities, grant portfolio management and evaluation, planning and budget management, and communications. The OAD:

  • Integrates and coordinates the activities of the component Branches by establishing program priorities, allocating resources, staff, and assignments; and manages scientific activities and portfolios that cross Branch boundaries;
  • Evaluates Program effectiveness through use of external working groups, boards, expert consultants, professional organizations, and Program grantees;
  • Facilitates the development and operation of consortia that can conduct the types of large-scale collaborative epidemiologic studies needed to address complex questions about the etiology of cancer; and
  • Represents the Program in a wide range of scientific and management settings, and provides advice to NCI senior leadership and advisory committees on matters pertaining to the Program and cancer epidemiology.
