Cindy D. Davis, Ph.D., Director of Grants and Extramural Activities

Cindy D. Davis, Ph.D., is the Director of Grants and Extramural Activities in the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS). In this position, she actively engages and encourages partnerships with other NIH Institutes and Centers to facilitate funding of grants that are of high relevance to ODS mission and goals. Before coming to ODS in November 2011, Dr. Davis was a Program Director in the Nutritional Sciences Research Group at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) where she worked since 2002.

Dr. Davis received her B.S. degree in nutritional sciences with honors from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and her Ph.D. degree in nutrition with a minor in human cancer biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Laboratory of Experimental Carcinogenesis at NCI. She then joined the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center, U.S. Department of Agriculture, as a research nutritionist. Her research focused on the effect of trace minerals—particularly selenium and copper—on cancer susceptibility.

In 2000, Dr. Davis received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and was named the USDA Early Career Scientist. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and eleven invited book chapters. She is on the editorial boards of The Journal of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, Frontiers in Nutrigenomics, and Nutrition Reviews.
