Welcome to SOLAR

SOLAR stands for Strengthening Operations for Learning And Results. It is a process-based tool designed to help Head Start and Early Head Start directors, managers, and supervisors examine program issues and staff skills to develop a Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) plan.

• The SOLAR Profiler is an online, password-protected database that stores information and generates reports on program staff and their skills. The Profiler supports profiles for preschool classroom staff; infant/toddler classroom staff; directors, managers, and supervisors; family, health, and disabilities services staff; home visitors; and support staff. Each profile type contains a set of performance-based indicators to assess the skill level of each employee.
• The SOLAR Planner is a stand-alone application for generating and tracking T/TA plans.
• The Frequently Asked Questions or FAQs serve as a comprehensive guide for the SOLAR Profiler and the SOLAR Planner. The FAQs explain what is required for using the SOLAR tools and how the process can be integrated as part of planning staff development and training.
