Healthy Marriage

There are at least two characteristics that all healthy marriages have in common.  First, they are mutually enriching, and second, both spouses have a deep respect for each other.  It is a mutually satisfying relationship that is beneficial to the husband, wife, and children (if present).  It is a relationship that is committed to ongoing growth, the use of effective communication skills and the use of successful conflict management skills.

National Center for Family and Marriage Research (NCFMR)

The NCFMR supports research on key questions about the effects of family structure and processes on the health and well-being of children, adults, families, and communities as well as the influence of programs and policies on marriage.  The NCFMR also builds research capacity, mentors and trains students in research on family structure, and translates research findings to researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.

Supporting Healthy Marriages (SHM)

The purpose of this project is to inform program operators and policymakers of the most effective ways to help couples to strengthen and maintain their marriages.

Domestice Violence Resources

Violence and abuse affect all kinds of people every day.  It doesn't matter what race or culture you come from, how much money you have, or if you have a disability.  It is most common among women between ages 15 and 54, but it can happen at any age.  Learn more about how to know the signs of violence and abuse.  Learn how to stay safe.  If you are being abused or have a loved one who is abused, or think there is abuse, get help as soon as you can.  Remember abuse can be physical, mental, and emotional.

Oklahoma Marriage Initiative Evaluation

ASPE completed an implementation evaluation of the The Oklahoma Marriage Initative (OMI) in 2008.  OMI is the oldest running state marriage initiative in the United states.  Funded with state TANF block grant funds and other sources, this public/private partnership is dedicated to helping couples gain access to services and supports to improve their marriage and relationship, with the ultimate goal of increasing child well-being.  Other OMI research is available.
