Ms. Gershman has been the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, Department of State Office of Inspector General, since January 2011. She leads an office responsible for conducting independent, professional investigations into allegations of fraud, waste and abuse of Department of State and Broadcasting Board of Governors resources.

 

Ms. Gershman has been a Federal law enforcement officer for more than 25 years, beginning her Federal career as a Special Agent in 1987 with the U.S. Department of Justice. For 22 years, Ms. Gershman served the Federal Inspector General community in operational and executive law enforcement positions, to include two years when she was detailed as a team leader to the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, investigating war crimes. Immediately prior to her arrival at the Department of State, she served as Assistant Inspector General and Executive Assistant Director of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, Department of Defense Office of Inspector General.

 

A native of Chicago, during her federal career she has served in Texas, Washington DC, and Europe. In addition to numerous letters of commendation and Department of Justice awards, Ms. Gershman is the recipient of the DoD Outstanding Career Achievement, Meritorious, and Superior Civilian Service Awards.
