About the Presenters

Rachel Flagg is a Program Manager in GSA’s Center for Excellence in Digital Government. In the late 1990s she moved from IT Training and Network Administration to managing government websites. She has a passion for Plain Language writing and currently leads the team that manages HowTo.gov, a website to help government agencies improve customer service. Since 2007, Rachel has co-chaired the Federal Web Managers Council, working with Web and Digital Communications Directors across the Federal government to develop best practices for managing government websites. She also leads a large community of 3,000+ federal, state, and local U.S. government Web content managers, who collaborate to improve the delivery of digital government services to the American public. Rachel lives in Washington (the state).

Gray Brooks is the Senior API Strategist at the GSA as part of the agency's recently launched Digital Services Innovation Center. His role in the Center is to promote the role of Web services in government and to support federal agencies in the implementation of the Digital Government Strategy's milestones. Prior to GSA, Gray served at the FCC for the last 3 years as part of the digital team overhauling the agency's Web presence and standing up its current Drupal site.

Mike Kruger is the Director of Digital Strategy at the U.S Department of Commerce. He is responsible for the online presence of 11 bureaus and the Office of the Secretary. His day can consist of writing a blog post about a new initiative, checking Google Analytics for a program office, and working with multiple teams to ensure that an event has enough coverage on Twitter, Facebook, and Ustream. Part of his responsibilities is to set policy and procedures for the entire agency, roughly 2% of the federal workforce, but his primary day-to-day responsibility is managing the Drupal-based Commerce.gov website and blog.
