The North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System's North Shore CCOP has completed over 25 years of NCI-sponsored clinical research in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties in New York, and has been identified as the repository of state-of-the-art clinical research protocols for both treatment and cancer control. Its catchment area is one of the most densely populated, socially and ethnically diverse counties in the country.
The North Shore CCOP has evolved since 1983 from a single main institution to its current involvement of full-time and volunteer affiliated physicians at diverse locations across three counties in the New York metropolitan area. Two major tertiary hospitals, North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, serve as the hub of the North Shore CCOP. Along with several community hospitals within the North Shore LIJ Health System, they are able to offer both intensive state-of-the-art clinical trials sponsored by the research bases and large Phase III trials for cancer treatment, prevention and symptom control. The CCOP offers the only NCI-sponsored cancer clinical trials available to this resident population on Long Island.
