Coalitions and Task Forces

The National Center on Elder Abuse believes that community education and outreach is critical in combating the problem of elder abuse and neglect. Much of this outreach takes place through the efforts of state, regional or local coalitions, collaborations, committees, councils, multidisciplinary teams or task forces whose overarching goal is the protection of elders at risk of abuse and/or neglect.

Several years ago, NCEA developed this Directory of Elder Abuse Coalitions and Task Forces by contacting over 300 elder abuse prevention groups that were identified through a national outreach effort. Each was recognized as being effective in spearheading efforts to prevent elder abuse either at a state, regional or local level. Approximately 150 separate groups completed and returned the survey.

As you will note, many have been in existence for several years, some a matter of months, and others in the beginning stages of formation. All share a common goal of preventing elder abuse and neglect. NCEA wants to continue building this important resource directory on coalitions. If your coalition is not listed, please contact ncea-info@aoa.hhs.gov.
