Traumatic Brain Injury & Public Services in Michigan

This is a free training course intended for service providers in Michigan’s public service agencies, including: Area Agencies on Aging, Community Mental Health Services Providers, Department of Human Services, MI Choice Waiver Agents, special education professionals in Michigan’s schools, and anyone else who serves people with brain injury.

Course objectives are:

  • To ensure service providers understand the range of outcomes of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and the implications for assessment and care-planning.
  • To improve the ability of service providers to identify and deliver appropriate services for persons with TBI – including coordination across service agencies when appropriate

This course is presented in four modules. Each module requires about 45 minutes to complete.

Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies – Consensus Report

Evaluating the HRSA Traumatic Brain Injury Program (2006)

In this report, the IOM Committee on Traumatic Brain Injury assesses the impact of the HRSA TBI Program.

    • “Established in 1997, the TBI Program is a modest Federal initiative with broad ambitions; a grants program aimed at motivating States to create systems improvement on behalf of persons with TBI and their families.”
    • “The IOM Committee concludes that there has been demonstrable improvement in two essential preconditions for improving TBI service systems – State-level TBI systems infrastructure and the overall visibility of TBI have grown considerably.”
