The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) supports research into our world's frozen realms: the snow, ice, glaciers, frozen ground, and climate interactions that make up Earth's cryosphere. The NASA/NOAA Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument data are used to expand upon existing applications to sea ice mapping by NSIDC and others in preparation for the operational JPSS constellation coming online in the next few years.
