Economic Impact

The Army National Guard (ARNG) maintains facilities in all States, Territories, Commonwealths and the District of Columbia.  The total number of locations with facilities across the Army National Guard is 3,165 and there are 27,589 structures on those facilities, which include 3019 Readiness Centers, 1007 Ground Maintenance Facilities and 272 Aviation Support Facilities.

These facilities total more than 160.8 million square feet.  The Army National Guard also maintains 120 training centers of almost four million acres containing nearly 1,500 miles of improved roads. What makes the Army National Guard unique is its dual Federal and State missions, serving both the country and state.  In this dual role, the Army National Guard holds both State and Federal properties.  Of the Army National Guard’s more than 27,000 buildings and structures, about 11,000 are federally-owned and 16,000 are state-owned.  These facilities and training centers support approximately 350,000 National Guard personnel in the accomplishment of their State and Federal missions.  All MILCON appropriations are sent to the states for execution of construction projects.
