Tillman Military Scholars Program

The Pat Tillman Foundation’s Tillman Military Scholars program supports our nation’s active and veteran servicemembers and their families by removing financial barriers to completing a degree or certification program of choice. The scholarships cover not only direct study-related expenses such as tuition and fees, but also other needs, including housing and child care. Applications will open on Monday, January 14, 2013 and remain open until 11:59:59 PM PST on Friday, February 15, 2013.

Updated criteria for the program and essay questions can be found on the PTF website here: http://www.pattillmanfoundation.org/tillman-military-scholars/apply/. This is also where the online application will be posted.

The mission of the  Pat Tillman Foundation is to invest in military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships; building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others. This is accomplished with the Tillman Military Scholars program which purpose is to identify high-impact active or veteran servicemembers and their spouses and invest in their higher education, covering the needs left unpaid for by the GI Bill and other government support. The scholarship funds we award are just a portion of the Tillman Military Scholar experience which also focuses on guiding an engaged community and providing essential resources that empower Scholars to serve and lead in their local communities and ease the transition from military to civilian life.

Since its inception, 230 Tillman Military Scholars representing 34 states and attending 71 institutions nationwide have been awarded over $3.2 million. Scholars are selected based on meeting a high level of excellence as demonstrated through essays and application questions which tie together these factors: motivation for serving in the military, impact of service on life/career, explanation of how degree will apply to/accelerate career and applicant’s desire to continue service and make a positive impact. Further selection criteria can be found on the Become a TMS page.

In 2013, the Pat Tillman Foundation will provide over $1 million in funding to the 60 members of the 5th class of Tillman Military Scholars.
