and implement new activities that support fatherhood and promote marriage.

page of the HHS' Fatherhood website has been revised and updated to reflect 2005/2006 fatherhood
support activities that have been funded by the federal Department of Health and
Human Services and by state and local community efforts. Information is available

Research has shown that there is no better food than breast milk for a
baby’s first year of life. Breastfeeding provides many
health, nutritional, economical and emotional benefits to mother and
baby. Since a major goal of the WIC Program is to improve the
nutritional status of infants, WIC mothers are encouraged to breastfeed
their infants. WIC has historically promoted breastfeeding to all
pregnant women as the optimal infant feeding choice, unless medically
contraindicated.

The Welfare Peer Technical Assistance Network provides peer-to-peer
technical assistance to public agencies and private organizations
operating the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program.
Technical assistance is provided through a variety of mechanisms:
peer-to-peer site visits, workshops, moderated teleconferences and
interactive Q&A sessions. The Web site also highlights policy
relevant research, innovative programs, related links and upcoming
events. The objective of the Peer TA Network is to facilitate the
sharing of information between and among states and to establish
linkages between organizations serving the needs of welfare recipients.

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides an entitlement of up to 12 weeks of job-protected, unpaid leave
during any 12-month period to eligible, covered employees for the following reasons: 1) birth and
care of the eligible employee's child, or placement for adoption or foster care of a child with the employee;
2) care of an immediate family member (spouse, child, parent) who has a serious health
condition; or 3) care of the employee's own serious health condition.
It also requires that employee's group health benefits be maintained
during the leave. The FMLA is administered by the Employment Standards
Administration's Wage and Hour Division within the U.S. Department of Labor.
