Biography

Dr. Watters Elena is a Program Director in the Clinical and Translational Epidemiology Branch (CTEB). Her responsibilities include developing and managing a research portfolio of grants that focuses on dietary and lifestyle factors that influence cancer progression, recurrence and survival, and the development of second primary cancers.

Before joining EGRP, Dr. Watters Elena was a Cancer Prevention Fellow in the Nutritional Epidemiology Branch in NCI's intramural Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG). She investigated dietary and lifestyle factors that influence prostate cancer risk, disease progression, and survival in large cohort studies, including the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study and the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention (ATBC) Study. In 2009, she received the NIH Fellows Award for Research Excellence. Dr. Watters Elena is continuing her research with DCEG as an adjunct scientist.
