Retinal Cell Biology

A postdoctoral position is available in the Section on Neuronal-Glial Interactions in Retinal Disease, National Eye Institute (NEI), in Bethesda, Maryland, to study the interaction of microglia with different cell types that underlie retinal diseases.

Some of our current research interests focus on (1) understanding the physiology of resident immune cells in the retina and examining how they interact with retinal cells such as neurons, RPE cells, and supporting macroglia, (2) the impact of aging of microglial physiology, and (3) translation research into retinal microglia as a therapeutic target for retinal diseases. Successful candidates should have: (1) doctoral training in experimental (bench) science, preferably in neuroscience, cell biology, or vision research, (2) a productive publication record, and (3) an interest in both basic and translational research in the vision sciences. Self-motivated and creative applicants with a particular interest in how neuroscience interacts with immunology with regards to vision research are particularly encouraged to apply.

The position provides generous scientific resources and stipend support. Stipends start at $44,000 and are commensurate with research experience. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
