The National Cancer Act of 1971 directs the NCI to “plan and develop an expanded, intensified, and coordinated cancer research program encompassing the programs of the NCI, related programs of other research institutes, and other Federal and non-Federal programs.” To carry out this mission, the NCI utilizes a number of funding mechanisms. NCI OA participates in the planning, review, award, and management of NCI contracts and simplified acquisitions. In addition, NCI OA is a service center for contract actions and purchasing required by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). Organizationally, NCI OA is located under the Office of the Director, Office of Management.
