SEAS Seminars: Sustainable Energy and Atmospheric Sciences: Next Seminar: Thursday, March 17, 2011
SEAS is a monthly seminar series designed to enhance communication and collaboration among scientists at NREL, NOAA ESRL, and others in the community working on issues related to renewable energy. International Workshop on Air Quality Forecasting Research (IWAQFR): 2-3 December 2009

The goal of the International Workshop on Air Quality Forecasting Research (IWAQFR) is to provide a venue for the discussion of science issues and advancements related to air quality forecasting. Workshop objectives include improving operational air quality forecasts, promoting collaborations among air quality forecasting researchers and practitioners, and nurturing an international air quality forecasting community. Workshop - Tropospheric Ozone Changes: Observations, State of Understanding, and Modeling Requirements: October 14-16, 2009

The workshop will focus on measurement series ~15 years or longer in length and aims at a critical review of ozonesonde, surface, and aircraft measurements and more recently satellite observations. It will address the quality of individual datasets, their suitability for inferring the long-term behavior of ozone, the consistency of data sets with each other (see figure below), and statistical methods of time series analysis. One goal of the workshop is to provide better understanding of the observational limitations and constraints of the existing records. More Information
NOAA Testbed USWRP Workshop: April 28-29, 2009

This workshop, directed towards enhancing communication across NOAA tesbed efforts, is an important opportunity to exchange information and best-practices on the wide variety of testbed projects including those from the Joint Hurricane Testbed (JHT), the HydroMeteorological Testbed (HMT), Collaborative Science, Technology, & Applied Research (CSTAR), the Societal Impacts Program (SIP), the Development Testbed Center (DTC), as well as, other relevant efforts seeded by USWRP and ones on the horizon.

NOAA ESRL 2009 Global Monitoring Annual Conference: May 13-14, 2009

The Global Monitoring Annual Conference is a continuing effort to stay abreast of recent observations concerning trace gases, aerosols, radiation, ozone, and climate forcing and to provide a forum in which these observations can be relayed and discussed. The ESRL monitoring and research results of the past year will be presented. The meeting is not limited to ESRL reports and includes observations related to these themes by both independent and cooperative investigators, and other national and international programs.

4th Workshop on the Use of Isentropic & other Quasi-Lagrangian Vertical Coordinates in Atmosphere & Ocean Modeling: October 7-9, 2008
Considerable development & testing of quasi-Lagrangian vertical coordinates has occurred since the last hybrid-Θ modeling work shop 4 years ago. This work, in both the atmosphere & ocean, has demonstrated further the potential for isentropic & other quasi-Lagrangian vertical coordinates to improve simulations & forecasts of geophysical fluid flows. This workshop will include both invited & contributed papers on the latest progress in this rapidly developing field.

ESRL Atmospheric Chemistry Research Review: January 29-31, 2008
Laboratory scientific reviews are conducted every four years to evaluate the quality, relevance, and performance of research conducted in OAR laboratories. This review covers the atmospheric chemical sciences research of ESRL over the last four years. Research topics include Stratospheric Ozone, Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Climate, Non-CO₂ Climate Gases, Regional Air Quality, Chemical Transformation and Long Range Transport, and Aerosols and Climate.
