CDC Vital Signs. Learn vital information about stopping C. difficile infections. Read CDC Vital Signs

The Healthcare-associated infection component of the EIP engages a network of state health departments and their academic medical center partners to help answer critical questions about emerging HAI threats, advanced infection tracking methods, and antibiotic resistance in the United States.

Information gathered through this activity will play a key role in shaping future policies and recommendations targeting HAI prevention.

Healthcare-associated Infection Projects within the Emerging Infections Program

HAI and Antibiotic Use Prevalence Survey:

A large-scale snapshot of antibiotic use, antibiotic resistance, and all HAIs affecting hospital patients.

Improving HAI Tracking:

A series of activities to simplify or improve NHSN methods. Current project includes testing a time-saving method for CLABSI tracking.

Clostridium difficile Infection Tracking:

Determining the number of infections in the U.S. population and people at risk for infection.

Candida Bloodstream Infections:

Determining the frequency of bloodstream infections caused by Candida, tracking resistance to antifungal drugs, and identifying people at risk.

Tracking Resistant Bacteria:

Determining the extent of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter disease in the United States.

CDC’s EIP Program also tracks MRSA. Learn more
