volunteers on the beach There are many ways to get involved with the National Marine Sanctuaries - volunteer opportunities, advisory council involvement, participate in management plan review, NOAA jobs and being a steward for the oceans are all great ways. Starting with 10 things you can do, explore these and more below!
How You Can Take Action

NOAA is seeking public comment on the proposal to revise the list of special use permits applicable in national marine sanctuaries. NOAA proposes to modify three of the five existing categories and to add two new categories of special use permits: recreational diving near the USS Monitor and fireworks displays. Comments must be received on or before March 18, 2013. For more information, view the Federal Register notice here, or contact Vicki Wedell, National Permit Coordinator, at Vicki.Wedell@noaa.gov.

NOAA has begun a public process to review the boundaries for its Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank national marine sanctuaries off northern California. The agency is soliciting public comments on this boundary review through March 1. For further information or to submit comments on this proposed action, please visit farallones.noaa.gov/manage/northern_area.html

Volunteer

Volunteers help to ensure marine sanctuaries remain America's underwater treasures for future generations. Through their efforts, volunteers contribute over 100,000 hours of annual service to the sanctuaries in areas of research, monitoring, enforcement, education and outreach, and management advisory.
