Date: 06/08/2012 Description: Tree © Bowman Design GroupThe UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) is being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil June 20-22, 2012, to mark the 20th anniversary of the historic Rio Earth Summit. The official themes for Rio are the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, and the institutional framework for sustainable development.

At Rio+20, the United States will join delegations around the world to build and showcase partnerships among government, businesses, and Date: 06/15/2012 Description: Rio+20 - State Dept Imagecivil society to create green economic growth and resource efficiency, to harness the power of science, technology and innovation to reduce poverty and improve living conditions, and to emphasize the role of good governance in building a future that integrates the economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainable development. To achieve these goals, the United States will encourage action among international, national, and local stakeholders – with a particular emphasis on women and youth – and across sectors.

The U.S. Center in Rio will feature programs that demonstrate the wide range of activities and initiatives that we and our international partners are pursuing to build a better future. The projects featured at the Center will be just a small portion of those the United States is pursuing to support sustainable development around the globe.
