Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

1. What is Publications.USA.gov?

Publications.USA.gov is operated by the Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC), U.S. General Services Administration. It serves as a central source of information about federal government publications helpful to citizens. Publications.USA.gov replaces FCIC's former website Pueblo.GSA.gov and makes it even easier than before to find government publications. Please update your FCIC bookmark to Publications.USA.gov.

2. Is there a charge for publications?

If print copies are available, publications are free. If print copies are unavailable for distribution, you may download and print copies of these publications for free.

3. What is the charge for shipping?

Standard shipping is free in the U.S., to territories, provinces, and APO/FPO/DPO destinations. Free shipping is not available to addresses outside the U.S. If you have reached us from outside the U.S., you may download and print copies of these publications for free.

4. Why do you only ship within the U.S.?

These publications are published to assist U.S. citizens and consumers. Consumers outside the U.S. may download publications to their computers, laptops, or other electronic devices and print copies.

5. Can I get express shipment of my publications?

We apologize that express shipment of print copies is not available at this time.

6. Will I get an e-mail confirming my order?

Yes, if you provide your e-mail address during the ordering process, we will send you an e-mail confirming your order. The e-mail will come from Pueblo@GPO.gov.

7. Can I order publications by phone?

We no longer accept publication orders by phone.

8. What is your most popular publication?

The Consumer Action Handbook, with over 162 pages of helpful consumer advice and contacts, has consistently been our most popular publication.

9. Can I distribute these publications myself?

The publications provided by FCIC are published or sponsored by a variety of federal and private-sector organizations. In most instances, FCIC is not the publisher and cannot provide legal advice pertaining to the legality of the sale or further use of the information. If you are planning to copy and distribute this information, especially for a profit, it would be prudent to contact the publishing organization for permission and consult a lawyer.

10. Can I download a copy of the publications, rather than wait for the delivery of the print copy publications?

Yes, we encourage you to download and print copies of publications from Publications.USA.gov.

11. Are there limits to the amount of publications I can order in print?

Yes. The total number of copies you can order of each publication varies according to the allowable limit established by the publishing organization.

12. Why aren't all the publications on your site available from you in print?

Print publications available on Publications.USA.gov are provided by various federal government agencies or their cooperative partners. The organizations determine the quantities that FCIC is able to distribute on their behalf. In some cases, organizations choose not to distribute their publications through FCIC or their publications are no longer available in print. In these cases, we provide the public access to these publications through this website for free downloading to your preferred device and/or printing on your own printer.

13. How long does it take to receive my order and can I check the status of my publication order?

Your publications should arrive within 2 to 4 weeks of placing your order. If you have not received your order after 4 weeks, please send an e-mail to Pueblo@GPO.gov. Please include your order tracking number and the date you placed your order in your message. You also may call our customer service number at 1-719-295-2675. Please have ready the tracking number and the date you placed your order. Please note that this phone number is only for checking on your order. Orders are taken online only. No phone orders will be accepted.

14. Why does my order confirmation say my shipment is coming from two different addresses?

We make every attempt to ship your publications as quickly and efficiently as possible. This means that occasionally some of your publications may be sent from the publishing agency.

15. I work for a federal government agency. How can we get our publications included?

We are always looking for federal government publications that are helpful to the public. Please contact James Zawada at the Federal Citizen Information Center to discuss this and other opportunities.
