US Department of Labor announces grant increment to continue assisting workers affected by closure of Cessna Aircraft facility in Bend, Ore.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $279,373 National Emergency Grant increment to continue to provide re-employment and training services to about 280 workers affected by layoffs at the Cessna Aircraft Co. facility located in Bend, Ore.

"This administration is committed to getting all Americans back to work," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "I am pleased that this funding will ensure workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own can continue to receive training and other related services, which will help them in broadening their skill sets and securing employment in some of Oregon's promising industries."

On Oct. 21, 2009, a National Emergency Grant was approved for up to $1,412,920, with $925,664 released initially. This funding represents the second increment of that grant and is being awarded to the Oregon Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines. For more information, visit http://www.doleta.gov/NEG/.
