This video features three presentations focusing on SAMHSA's Recovery Support Strategic Initiative, the Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorders Knowledge Synthesis, Product Development & Technical Assistance (CODI) contract, and finally concludes with a presentation on the alignment of PATH data with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development's Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
A. Kathryn Power, M.Ed. is the Director of the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), an operating division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). CMHS provides national leadership in mental health promotion, mental illness prevention, and the development and dissemination of effective mental health services. Director Power leads a staff of professionals in facilitating the transformation of our nation's mental health care system into one that is recovery-oriented and consumer-centered, and serves as the lead for the Recovery Support Initiative. Next, Deborah Stone, Ph.D., Social Science Analyst, Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), SAMHSA and Onaje Salim, LPC, MAC, CCS, Public Health Advisor, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), SAMHSA provide an overview of the CSAT/CMHS Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorders Knowledge Synthesis, Product Development & Technical Assistance (CODI) contract. Interesting updates provided on contract activities, including opportunities for joining innovative Learning Communities (visit this PATH Resource to find out more about SAMHSA's CODI program: http://pathprogram.samhsa.gov/Organiz...).
Finally, a two-part presentation draws on the expertise of two individuals whose work will impact PATH data reporting and collection as the program moves towards integrating the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) as its tool for PATH program data collection and reporting. Julie Hovden is a Program Analyst in HUD's Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs. Ms. Hovden's primary areas of responsibility are implementation and project management of the electronic grants management system, HMIS policy development, and coordination of technical assistance activities.
Bernie Bluhm, M.Ed., has been involved in social work and program management since 1976. Since 2007, Mr. Bluhm has been the State PATH Contact for New Hampshire. In addition to his role as State PATH Contact, Mr. Bluhm also provides oversight for two of New Hampshire's three Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) grants, and is the grantee representative for the New Hampshire Homeless Management Information System.
The presentation addresses how PATH data aligns with the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development's (HUD) Data and Technical Standards and the implications for the PATH Annual Data Report followed by small group, round table discussions. A facilitated discussion follows the presentation aimed at obtaining feedback about the updated PATH Annual Data Report (visit this PATH Resource to find out more about HMIS and PATH: http://pathprogram.samhsa.gov/Channel...).
