CDC Releases Older Adult Preparedness Portal
CDC releases a cross-sector preparedness guide and Web portal designed to help states, communities, and partners plan for and protect vulnerable older adults in all hazards emergencies.
Unlike older adults who reside in assisted living facilities and nursing homes, older adults who live in the community are sometimes over-looked during the planning process for preparing for an emergency. Older adults are especially vulnerable as they are more likely to have multiple chronic conditions, cognitive and physical disabilities, or limited resources that affect their ability to appropriately prepare for and respond to an emergency.
To address this issue, CDC has published Identifying Vulnerable Older Adults and Legal Options for Increasing Their Protection During All-Hazards Emergencies: A Cross-Sector Guide for States and Communities. The guide identifies strategies for identifying vulnerable older adults and also presents states, communities, and partner organizations with a menu of action options for increasing their protection.
A Web portal is also available to serve as a one-stop source for further resources, tools, and information related to all-hazard preparedness for older adults. Focus areas include the following:
