Neuroimaging in Motor Neuron Disorders

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), Bethesda, MD and surrounding area

A postdoctoral position to study neuroimaging in motor neuron disorders will be available in July 2014 in the intramural program of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

Motor neuron disease phenotypes have marked differences in the rates of disease progression and the distribution of degeneration between corticospinal and spinal motor neurons. Our group is interested in identifying biomarkers for progression of corticospinal degeneration with structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging. The MRI studies are carried out in the NIH MRI Research Center, a dedicated research facility on the Bethesda campus at the NIH Clinical Center.

To be eligible for this position, you must be within 5 years of receiving your doctoral degree (MD or PhD). Applicants must have excellent communication skills, and an ability to work in a team as well as independently. Experience in quantitative magnetic resonance imaging methods or relevant fields is a plus. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. Salary will follow the NIH guidelines for intramural research training awards (https://www.training.nih.gov/). MDs with ECFMG may be eligible for credentialing as medical research staff. All positions are subject to a background check.
