Worker Education and Training Program

NIEHS to Fund $36 Million in Worker Safety Training

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is awarding $36 million in grants to 20 organizations that develop safety and health training for workers involved in hazardous waste operations and transportation, environmental restoration of contaminated facilities, and chemical emergency response. These training programs can receive annual funding for up to five years.

 

 

Haiti Earthquake Response Information

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m., a magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake struck the island of Hispaniola approximately 15.5 miles from Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. On the morning of Wednesday, January 20, an aftershock measuring 6.1 struck Petit Goave, located approximately 35 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince. Emergency response and relief efforts are currently underway from the US and other countries. The lead agencies responsible for the US federal government response are the Agency for International Development and the Department of Defense.
