Cookie DisclaimerBack to Top

A "cookie" is a small piece of information (token) sent by a Web server and stored on a user’s system (hard drive) so it can later be read back from that system. Using cookies is a convenient technique for having the browser remember some specific information. Cookies may be categorized as “session” or “persistent” cookies. “Session” cookies are temporary cookies that are used to maintain context or “state” between otherwise stateless Web transactions (e.g., to maintain a "shopping basket" of goods selected during a single logical session at a site) and that must be deleted at the end of the web session in which they are created. “Persistent” cookies remain over time and can be used for a variety of purposes, including to track a user's access over time and across Web sites, or to establish user preferences.

The Maxwell Web site does not use persistent cookies, i.e., tokens that pass information back and forth from your machine to the server and remain after you close your browser. The Maxwell Web site does use session cookies, i.e., tokens that remain active only until you close your browser, in order to make the site easier for you to use. No database of information obtained from these cookies is kept and when you close your browser, the cookie is deleted from your computer. The Maxwell Web site uses cookies to save you time in filling out forms, to maintain a relationship between the image and the correct link. You can chose not to accept these cookies and still use the site, but (you may need to enter the same information repeatedly and clicking on the banners will not take you to the correct page). The help information in your browser software should provide you with instruction on how to disable cookies.

Philosophy of the Air War College Gateway and POCBack to Top

We hope this site will serve as a rich resource for all DoD folks, but especially those coming to, currently attending, or having graduated from the Air War College, both resident and nonresident, and the other schools of Air University. This effort is in direct support of life-long learning for all DoD personnel.

This site will continually be adding materials and links to support all aspects of the core and elective courses of the Air War College. These materials will range from downloadable books and study guides, to brainstorming tools, to complete elective courses. We especially will be looking for complete courses already online which support portions of the curriculum here at the college.

Please participate -- Send us materials and internet links you think would add to the utility of this site. We can't guarantee they'll all be used, but they will all be considered.

AccessibilityBack to Top
Most AWC Gateway menu and navigation pages are text-based -- and lend themselves well to onscreen enlargement of text and text-to-voice readers. If you encounter a problem using accessibility tools on our pages, please let us know and we'll work to fix that problem.

Many of the pages referred to by this site are Acrobat PDF files. The link below will take you to the Accessibility pages of Adobe Acrobat, where they have free tools available for making PDF files accessible using your browser.

Meaning of "local copy"Back to Top
Scattered throughout this site are Local Copy links. These are locally created materials or, more frequently, locally rehosted copies of material from other sites. These rehosted copies fulfill several functions:
    • Originals are at sites that are frequently very slow and/or busy, or
    • Originals are at sites where webmasters have frequently changed URLs, thus at least temporarily losing material for internet users, or
    • Local copies correct errors (such as portions of document mistakenly centered), or
    • Originals are large files that take a long time to download. The local copies are then particularly useful within the Air University community for speedy access, and to serve as alternate sources for others.

Local copies are only of material released by originators for public viewing. Local copies are for educational use only. Their presence does not imply any endorsement or verification (see Disclaimer above), merely that they are present for research and/or comparison purposes. Most local copies are government owned and/or copyright-free. However, some may be copyrighted and available for free use only within government organizations or government web pages. Before using any of the material for non-government use, please check with copyright notices and/or originators of the material.

Other Tips and NotesBack to Top
This site is best viewed with screen set to 800x600 or greater (best at 1024x768).

We have tried to design it to need minimum resources at your end -- mostly text and few graphics, for maximum speed in viewing and navigating. We want you to be able to quickly get to the final link, the one that has your answer -- although we hope you'll find enough interesting stuff in the process to come back when you can stay awhile.

When sending us links, if you send a .pdf (Acrobat) link, please send also a text or .html link if possible to help those with average/limited internet connections.
