Census Bureau Resources

  • Population Estimates: The Population Estimates Program publishes total resident population estimates and demographic components of change (births, deaths, and migration) each year. This resource allows users to estimate the Voting-Age Population for geographies at the sub-state level.
  • Population Projections: Projections are estimates of the population for future dates. They illustrate plausible courses of future population change based on assumptions about future births, deaths, net international migration, and domestic migration. This resource allows users to estimate the Voting-Age Population for future election cycles.
  • Census Redistricting Data: The Census Redistricting Data Program will provide states the opportunity to delineate voting and state legislative districts and to suggest census block boundaries for use in the 2010 Census redistricting data tabulations.
  • American Community Survey (ACS): Data users can access citizenship and age breakdowns for some sub-state geographies via American FactFinder.
  • Statistical Abstract of the United States: The election section of the Census Bureau’s Statistical Abstract relates primarily to Presidential, Congressional, and Gubernatorial elections. Also presented are summary tables on congressional legislation; state legislatures; Black, Hispanic, and female officeholders; population of voting age; voter participation; and campaign finances.
