The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council announced today the appointment by the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors of James E. Forney, Iowa Superintendent of Credit Unions, to the Council's State Liaison Committee. He will replace Idaho Director of Finance Gavin M. Gee, whose terms has expired. Director Gee has served continuously since 1993.

The Council is also announcing that the American Council of State Savings Supervisors has re-appointed Texas Savings and Loan Commissioner James L. Pledger to a second two-year term.

The State Liaison Committee members who continue service are: SLC Chairman and Massachusetts Banking Commissioner Thomas J. Curry; Tennessee Commissioner of Financial Institutions Bill C. Houston; and Utah Financial Institutions Commissioner E. Edward Leary.

The Examination Council was established by Congress to promote uniformity among the five Federal financial supervisory agencies in the supervision and examination of the federally chartered or insured institutions under their supervision. The State Liaison Committee is composed of five representatives of State agencies that supervise State-chartered financial institutions. The State Liaison Committee was established to encourage the application of uniform examination principles and standards by State and Federal supervisory agencies.
