NIH WSA Scholar Award 
 
WSA Scholars are selected from a pool of all the female FARE award (Fellow Award for Research Excellence) winners, by a panel of WSA institute representatives from across NIH. The FARE award honors outstanding scientific research performed by intramural postdoctoral fellows.

WSA Scholar awardees of FY2013
Winners:

Zhifei Wang (NIMH)

In recognition of scientific excellence for her FARE research project titled- Chronic Valproate Treatment Enhances Post-ischemic Angiogenesis and Promotes Functional Recovery in a Rat Model of Ischemic Stroke.

Emmie de Wit (NIAID)

In recognition of scientific excellence for her FARE research project titled- Modeling the Nipah virus transmission cycle . Emmie's Principle Investigator is Heinrich Feldman.

Anne Lai, Ph.D. NIEHS
In recognition of scientific excellence for her FARE research project titled- DNA methylation primes the memory B cell epigenome for plasma cell differentiation.

Elizabeth Grice, Ph.D. NIH/NHGRI
In recognition of scientific excellence for her FARE research project titled- Longitudinal shift in diabetic wound microbiota correlates with prolonged skin defense response.
Elizabeth's Principal Investigator is Julie Segre.

Sita Laximi Thirunavukkarasu, Ph.D. NIH/NCI
In recognition of scientific excellence for her FARE research project titled-Regulation of DNA replication by proteins involved in the splicing machinery.
Sita's Principal Investigator is Mirit Aladjem.

Dr. Sita laximi Thirunavukkarasu (above) is the other recipient of the FY2011 NIH WSA Scholar  award. Sita recently completed her training, and had left NIH to follow the next steps in her career path.



WSA Scholar Seminars.

Upcoming NIH WSA Scholar Seminar.

Drs. Anne Lai and Yurong Song, and Shruit Naik will give the second NIH Women Scientist Advisors (WSA) Scholar Seminar on Friday, March 2nd, 2012, at noon in Wilson Hall, Bldg. 1: Anne Lai, Ph.D. “Dynamics of DNA methylation during B lymphocyte activation and differentiation”; Yurong Song, Ph.D. “An evolutionary path to Glioblastoma: Insight into etiology from engineered mice "; Shruti Naik,"Compartmentalized control of skin immunity by resident commensals". Each scholar will give a 15 minute seminar. The talks will be followed by a reception with an opportunity for networking.


Past NIH WSA Scholar Seminars:

Dr. Elizabeth Grice gave the Inaugural NIH Women Scientist Advisors (WSA) Scholar Seminar on Friday, March 4th, 2011, at noon in Wilson Hall, Bldg. 1. "Genomic Analysis of Skin Microbiota in Health and in Chronic Diabetic Wounds". This was a 2011 Women's History Month event sponsored by Women Scientist Advisors (WSA) and the NIH Office of Research on Women's health (ORWH). It was a half hour seminar followed by a reception with the opportunity for networking.
