SR250 - Advanced Microarray Analysis Using R/Bioconductor

Description:

In this hands-on course we will use the popular statistical programming environment R along with packages from Bioconductor for doing advanced statistical analysis of microarray data. We will start with methods for data import from various sources go on to data pre-processing methods and finish with statistical analysis. Throughout the class we will be introducing useful packages from Bioconductor for doing various kinds of processing and analysis.

This course is intended for researchers familiar with the R programming environment who would like to learn more about the Bioconductor suite of packages. Those interested in a broad overview of microarray analysis methods without extensive programming may consider the course Microarray Analysis Using Open Source Tool.

Objectives:

    Topics to be covered include:
  • Advanced data import methods: Tab-delimited and comma separated value files; Importing data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and other databases.
  • Data processing and filtering: Log transformations and normalization methods; Remove missing values, outliers or other values.
  • Advanced microarray analyses: Differential expression with multifactor analysis of variance (ANOVA); Class prediction with machine learning techniques.
