2007-2011 ACS 5-year PUMS files released January 29

The 2007-2011 ACS 5-year PUMS files are now available in American FactFinder. The 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS Data Dictionary has also been re-released to correct a variable omission.

2007-2011 5-year estimates and 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS files released December 6

2007-2011 ACS 5-year estimates are available in the American FactFinder for geographic areas down to the census tract level. The 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS files are also available in American FactFinder.

Block group estimates available only in the Summary File

Detailed American Community Survey tables for block groups will only be included in the Summary File product; they will not be published in American FactFinder. For more information, visit the Summary File page.

Census tract and block group changes in New York state

There are census tract numbering changes and some geographic definition changes for 2010 Census tracts in Madison, Oneida and Richmond counties, New York. Learn more on the Release Notes page.

Additional documentation released for data release and PUMS files

Accuracy of the Data documentation has been released to help users with the release of 2007-2011 ACS 5-year estimates. In addition, the PUMS Estimates for User Verification and Accuracy of the PUMS documentation has been released to help users with the release of the 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS files.

Release date for 2007-2011 ACS 5-year estimates and 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS files

The Census Bureau plans to release 2007-2011 ACS 5-year estimates and 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS files on Thursday, December 6, 2012. For more information on the release schedule, visit 2011 ACS Release Schedule.

Zip Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTA) will be released on December 6, 2012.

The 2007-2011 ACS 5-year release will be the first ACS release to include Zip Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTA). Prepare for the release by learning how ZCTAs are different from Zip Codes.

New tables for the 2007-2011 ACS 5-year release

Visit 2011 Product Changes for a list and description of new, modified and deleted tables.

Select documentation released for data release and PUMS files

Supporting documentation, including Instructions for Applying Statistical Testing, the Sequence Number and Table Number Lookup files for the ACS Summary File, and table shells have been released to help users prepare for the release of 2007-2011 ACS 5-year estimates.

In addition, supporting documentation for the 2009-2011 ACS 3-year PUMS files has been released to help users prepare for the release.

Additional documentation will be released on December 6, 2012.

The 2009-2011 ACS 3-year estimates are available in American FactFinder for geographic areas of 20,000 or more. The 2011 ACS 1-year PUMS files are also available in American FactFinder.

Additional ACS Briefs Released

The Census Bureau has released 2 additional American Community Survey Briefs based on 2009-2011 ACS 3-year estimates. These are short reports on specific topics based on the newly released data.

Errors in Narrative Profiles on American FactFinder

The Census Bureau has identified errors in the 2011 American Community Survey 1-year Narrative Profiles. In some cases, the charts and graphs in the profiles displayed incorrect estimates. We have removed all Narrative Profiles and plan to correct and re-release the Narrative Profiles on October 25, 2012. We suggest using the ACS Data Profiles to access the estimates until the Narrative Profiles are corrected and restored.

2011 ACS 1-year estimates released September 20

  • 2011 ACS 1-year estimates are available in American FactFinder.
  • 2011 ACS 1-year estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.
  • 2011 ACS 1-year estimates are available for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more.

ACS briefs

For the release of the 2011 ACS 1-year estimates, the Census Bureau produced reports for the American Community Survey Briefs series -- short reports on specific topics based on the newly released estimates.

Increased representation of group quarter estimates for sub-state geographies

Due to revised methodology, there is increased representation of major group quarter (GQ) types for sub-state geographies compared to previous years. The GQ sample data has been supplemented with additional information from a new imputation procedure. For more information, read the ACS Group Quarters Small Area Estimation user note.

Census tract and block group changes in New York state

There are census tract numbering changes and some geographic definition changes for 2010 Census tracts in Madison, Oneida and Richmond counties, New York. Learn more on the Release Notes page.

Increase in ACS sample size

In June 2011, the ACS annual sample size increased from 2.9 million to 3.54 million addresses. Learn more on the Sample Size and Data Quality page.

Instructions for accessing the 112th Congressional Districts

The drop down menu to access the 112th Congressional Districts in American FactFinder is not working as expected. Instructions for accessing 2011 ACS 1-year estimates for the 112th Congressional Districts are available. This issue will be corrected soon.
