Ryan White Providers Address HIV/AIDS Among African-American WomenBlack women living with HIV/AIDS face many barriers to care. They tend to be the primary caregivers in their communities, often placing the needs of their partners, family members, and children ahead of their own. Many Black women are unaware that they are at risk for HIV/AIDS until after they have sought medical assistance for HIV symptoms. It is not uncommon for African-American women to be diagnosed with both HIV and AIDS or to progress to AIDS shortly after diagnosis.
