Save America's Treasures Grant Program

The Federal Save America’s Treasures program is one of the largest and most successful grant programs for the protection of our nation’s endangered and irreplaceable cultural heritage. Grants are available for preservation and/or conservation work on nationally significant intellectual and cultural artifacts and historic structures and sites. Intellectual and cultural artifacts include artifacts, collections, documents, sculpture, and works of art. Historic structures and sites include historic districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects.

Grants are awarded to Federal, state, local, and tribal government entities, and non-profit organizations through a competitive matching-grant program, administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

Heritage & Historic Preservation - NPS

Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012, Public Law 112-74, providing appropriations for Fiscal Year 2012, does not include funds for Save America's Treasures grants. Therefore, NPS will not accept applications or award grants in FY 2012.

The Historic Preservation Grants Division team, composed of nine grant management specialists, one technical reviewer, and a historian, actively manages more than 1,000 grant projects including Save America's Treasures, Preserve America, Historic Preservation Fund grants to States and Tribes, NAGPRA grants, and a variety of project-related grants. We also manage additional programs such as the Certified Local Government Program. We will continue to work with all of our partners and grantees in achieving our mission of protecting irreplaceable historic and prehistoric resources and the cultural identities of our communities and people.

Dubuque Shot Tower
"The Shot Tower has long been a Dubuque treasure rich in history. It is a riverfront icon siginificant to the cultural identity of the city and sense of pride amongst its citizens. Through the generosity of NPS and the efforts of many , the project has transformed the Shot Tower into a true national landmark that has inspired and raised the historical awareness of people in Dubuque and the surrounding region. For that, the City of Dubuque is grateful beyond measure."

- Roy Buol, Mayor of Dubuque
