External link PCORI Seeks Applications to Fund $120 Million in Comparative Clinical Effectiveness Research Exit Disclaimer
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent, non-profit organization created by Congress in 2010. Its mission is to fund research that will provide patients, their caregivers and clinicians with the evidence-based information needed to make better-informed health care decisions. PCORI has released its first primary research funding announcements to support comparative clinical effectiveness research that will give patients and those who care for them the ability to make better-informed health care decisions. PCORI will award $120 million this year for innovative projects that effectively incorporate patients and stakeholders in research teams and address PCORI's National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda.

The deadline for the letter of intent for the first cycle is June 15, 2012.
The deadline for the letter of intent for the second is October 15, 2012.
The deadline for the letter of intent for the third cycle is February 15, 2013.
External link Grant for Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Development Program
This grant (PA-10-205) of about $3 Million is open to nonprofits, federally-recognized tribes and traditionally, minority-serving institutions in order to fund efforts to create new drug therapies that stop, slow or reverse the cognitive effects caused by the onset of Alzheimer’s.

The deadline to apply is May 7, 2013.
External link Health Promotion among Minority Males
The focus of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is on health promotion among racial and ethnic minority men and encourages Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant applications from applicants that propose to stimulate and expand research in the health of minority men. Specifically, this initiative is intended to enhance the understanding of the numerous factors influencing the health promoting behaviors of racial and ethnic minority males and their subpopulations across the life cycle and encourage applications focusing on the development and testing of culturally and linguistically appropriate health-promoting interventions designed to reduce health disparities among racially and ethnically diverse males and their subpopulations age 21 and older.
This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) award mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-10-236, which encourages applications under the R01 mechanism.

Applications will be accepted from September 16, 2010 to September 13, 2013.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) anticipates grant and contract solicitations to be published beginning in fall 2009 for comparative effectiveness research projects with $300 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. AHRQ anticipates funding to commence in spring, 2010.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is announcing the availability of funds under its grant program to assist researchers in conducting health services research for 2009. The purpose of the Hispanic grant program is to implement Hispanic American health services research activities to meet the needs of diverse CMS beneficiary populations. Funding is available for grants to implement research related to health care delivery and health financing issues affecting Hispanic American communities. Eligible researchers may request $100,000 per year for up to two years for these grants.

Psychiatry Research Fellowships, American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education (APIRE)
The annual application deadline for research fellows is December 1 and for summer medical students is April 1.
