OLAW Online Seminars

OLAW Online Seminars program is a free webinar series to help Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs) and Institutional Officials (IOs) explore their responsibilities in the oversight of PHS-funded research that involves the use of live vertebrate animals.

Who may attend?
The series is tailored to IACUC staff, IACUC members, IOs, veterinarians, compliance personnel, animal care staff and others involved in animal programs. Although real-time participation is limited to personnel at PHS-Assured institutions, the public is invited to view the recorded versions posted under Education Resources.

What is the webinar format?
Webinars will include a 20 minute presentation followed by 30 minutes for questions and answers. Participants are encouraged to submit questions and suggestions for future topics by e-mail to OLAW at olawdpe@mail.nih.gov.

When will the webinars be held?
Webinars will be held quarterly on Thursdays starting at 1PM Eastern time (12 Noon Central, 11AM Mountain, 10AM Pacific). See the schedule below.

How can I participate in the webinar series?

Step 1: Enroll in the program
A one-time enrollment is required to participate in the program.

Step 2: Register for the webinar
Prior to each webinar, enrollees will receive an e-mail invitation to register. Simply go to the link provided in the invitation and submit to register. After you have registered, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing your unique URL for joining the webinar and have the option to add the event to your Outlook calendar.

Are the webinars recorded?
Yes, recordings with captions, transcripts and slides are posted at: Archive of Seminar Recordings.

Who is responsible for the program?
The program is being conducted by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW). OLAW provides guidance and interpretation of the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (Policy), supports educational programs, and monitors compliance with the Policy by Assured institutions and PHS funding components to ensure the humane care and use of animals in PHS-supported research, testing, and training, thereby contributing to the quality of PHS-supported activities.

Susan Silk, M.S., Director of the Division of Policy and Education, OLAW and Jerry Collins, Ph.D., Professor, Yale University developed the OLAW Online Seminars program. Susan and Jerry coordinate all of the webinars; subject matter experts from OLAW, public and private institutions will also participate in individual webinars.
