The following is a listing of the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education's (ORISE) most qualified professionals who also lead the seven core programs that reflect our mission of advancing science education and research programs.

Each representative is available for interviews, but all requests must be coordinated through Pam Bonee, ORAU director of communications, or one of the other media contacts listed in the right column.

Dr. Donna Cragle, director
Occupational Exposure and Worker Health
Programs

Cragle is responsible for such capabilities as dose reconstruction, illness and injury surveillance and health screening programs for DOE and other government agencies. She holds a B.S. in biological sciences from Indiana University, an M.S. in human genetics from the Medical College of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in environmental epidemiology from the University of North Carolina.

De. Dean M. Evasius, director, Science Education Programs

Evasius is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of science education programs that provide students, recent graduates and faculty members access to advanced technology and programs of national laboratories and federal research centers. Evasius holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the California Institute of Technology and a B.S. in mathematics from the University of California at Los Angeles.

David Hackemeyer, director
National Security and Emergency Management Programs

Hackemeyer leads a rapidly growing ORISE program that provides strategic direction to a number of federal agencies directly related to the U.S. Government's counterterrorism capabilities. He has extensive experience in counterterrorism, tactical operations and crisis management. Hackemeyer earned a B.B.A. in marketing from Texas A&M University and has served as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Tony Lester, director
Peer Review Programs

Lester directs a research review program that coordinates the use of independent, expert reviewers to determine the scientific feasibility of grant proposals submitted in response to government agency research needs. He holds a B.S. in education from the University of Tennessee, with a concentration in industrial training, and an M.S. in management from Regis University in Denver, Colo.

Sarah Roberts, director
Independent Environmental Assessment and Verification Programs

As director, Roberts manages daily and long-term operations and provides leadership to program staff involved with the program's environmental assessments and health physics projects. Most notable is a large-scale waste characterization project for DOE that is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Roberts holds an M.S. in health physics from Colorado State University and a B.S. in biology/medical technology from Ohio University.

Marcus Weseman, director
Health Communication and Technical Training Programs

Weseman is responsible for managing full-service health research and communications projects, including both quantitative and qualitative research, health risk and communication, educational outreach and training/education. He holds a B.A. in communication from Western Michigan University and both an M.S. in social work and an M.P.A. in public administration from the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Albert Wiley, medical and technical director, Radiation Emergency Assitance Center/Training Site

As director of REAC/TS, Wiley leads a team that can be deployed 24/7 to provide medical services in the event of a radiation emergency. In addition, REAC/TS staff provide advice and consultation and, through various courses, train health care professionals and other emergency responders in the medical management of radiation emergencies. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in Radiological Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
