Base de datos para la Investigacion Farmacoepedemiologica en Atencion Primaria (BIFAP)

Description

Spain's BIFAP project is designed to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a computerized database containing information provided by general practitioners and pediatricians in the Spanish National Health Service. The database is publicly owned and is to be used for epidemiological studies and, in particular, pharmacoepidemiological studies. Patient information will remain confidential, and practitioner participation in the project is voluntary. BIFAP is run by the Spanish Medicines Agency of the Spanish Department of Health in collaboration with the Spanish Centre for Pharmacoepidemiological Research, a nonprofit foundation devoted to epidemiological research of drug effects using automated databases. The main use of BIFAP data will be to evaluate the effects of drugs in the general population. The database is restricted to research purposes only.
