Population Health Research Unit

Description

The Population Health Research Unit (PHRU) was established within Dalhousie University in 1993 to address the growing need for data and research support in population health, health services utilization, and their inter-relationships. The Province of Nova Scotia has supplied PHRU with complete Medicare, Pharmacare, and hospital files suitable for research purposes; the Unit also has access to clinical databases and large-scale population surveys. The individual databases have been linked to create a comprehensive data system to provide research in health economics and pharmacoeconomics, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses, compliance studies, determinants of health studies, health status analyses, and patterns of care and practice studies. Users of PHRU are required to submit written requests and sign confidentiality agreements; access is governed by pricing policies.
