FAQ: NLM® LocatorPlus® -- What is the Integrated Library System (ILS)?

Question: What is the Integrated Library System (ILS)?

Answer:

The Voyager System is an integrated information management system designed for academic and research libraries. Voyager replaced a number of internal custom-built systems developed at the NLM over the last 30 years.

Voyager combines open system architecture and relational database technology. These technologies help NLM to incorporate data from the ILS into its other applications. NLM uses the Voyager (ILS) for acquisitions, serials control, cataloging, collection management, circulation, preservation, and as an Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

Endeavor Information Systems, Inc., now part of the Ex Libris Group, developed Voyager.
