Mission
The NCIS mission is to investigate and defeat criminal, terrorist, and foreign intelligence threats to the United States Navy and Marine Corps-ashore, afloat, and in cyberspace.
Investigative Records Requests 
 

Records Management Branch (Code 11C1) provides investigative information to other Federal agencies within and outside of the Department of Defense (DoD) as well as state, and local government agencies.  Information provided enables the requesting agency to make a determination regarding suitability for clearances and special programs, on-going criminal and counterintelligence investigations, law enforcement employment background verification, as well as other purposes. 

 

Individuals requesting information for personal use must use the Freedom of Information Act request process.  See “FOIA Requests” tab.

 

All requests for NCIS investigative information must be submitted on requesting agency letter head stationary and must be signed by an authorized representative.  Department of Defense requests must be signed by the Commander/ Commanding Officer/Director or by a representative with “By direction” authority.  Each request must state the specific reason for requesting the investigative record.

 

Requests for investigative information may be mailed or faxed to NCIS HQ for processing.
