FAQ Detail
Are deaths resulting from vehicle accidents considered to be arrest-related?

Sometimes. Vehicular accidents that are specifically related to arrest activities are within the scope of the ARD program. Vehicular pursuits involving direct action taken by law enforcement officers against an arrest subject, such as shooting at the subject, ramming the subjects vehicle, or otherwise forcing the vehicle off the road (i.e., roadblocks, spike strips to blow tires out) and result in the subjects death were included in the collection.

A death resulting from a vehicular accident is excluded from the ARD program if law enforcement personnel did not engage in direct action against the subject and or subjects vehicle.
