I have just returned from the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Conference in Austin, Texas where I had the opportunity to listen to and interact with some of the great minds in web and new media.  When discussing new media, health care (let alone behavioral health care) is not often the first thing that comes to mind, but after attending SXSW it was quite apparent that new media has a role to play in the behavioral health care field.

Using Art to Raise Awareness Around Behavioral Health

On Tuesday March 8, 2011 SAMHSA unveiled a painting by artist Sam English that was commissioned to help raise awareness about the roles of families and the community in mental and substance use disorder prevention.
The painting supports SAMHSA’s Public Awareness and Support Initiative to raise awareness around behavioral health. Mr. English was specifically chosen due to his familiarity with the prevention and recovery populations.
