Custom Application Development

The Custom Applications Branch (CAB) of the Division of Enterprise and Custom Applications (DECA) was established to provide a wide range of computer systems development services in support of the research and administrative missions at the NIH. This cost recovery service provides full life-cycle custom application development and production support of IT solutions. CAB offers customers a professional team of experienced project managers, business analysts, graphical designers, database administrators, and software engineers who are committed to customer service and technical excellence. The CAB team knows the business both in the laboratory and in the office.

CAB acts as both the triage and management facility for your information system development and programming service inquiries. When a service request is received, a business analyst will arrange a meeting in order to evaluate the project idea or problem. After the initial project assessment to estimate the size and scope of the perspective project, the assigned business analyst will begin requirements formulation. At the completion of that activity, a more refined cost can be determined and the project manager will recommend the project be forwarded to internal CIT software engineers or other external contractual mechanisms. Alternatively, the CAB team can complement existing development staff with consulting services to help jump start their efforts. No project is too large or too small!
