New Treasury Analysis Shows 9.4 Million Families Expected to Receive More Than $18.2 Billion in Tax Relief From American Opportunity Tax Credit This Year

​WASHINGTON – In a town hall-style discussion today with parents, students and educators from Woodrow Wilson Senior High School, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Education Secretary Arne Duncan talked about initiatives the Obama Administration has undertaken to make college more affordable for all Americans, including the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC).

Treasury Announces Build America Bonds Issuances Surpass $150 Billion

Recovery Act Bonds Program Provides Infrastructure Financing to State and Local Governments, Saving Billions Compared to Tax Exempt Bonds

 WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury today released its comprehensive monthly update on Build America Bonds issuances, including state-by-state data, showing that more than $150 billion have been issued through October 31, 2010.  Build America Bond issuers benefit from substantial savings in borrowing costs when compared to issuing tax-exempt debt.

U.S. Department of Transportation Completes Agreement to Help Revitalize Appalachian Short Line Rail in West Virginia

Project Reduces Congestion and Fuel Consumption

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation has completed an agreement that will help fund West Virginia’s portion of the Appalachian Regional Short Line Rail project, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced today.  The project, receiving a $1.77 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant, includes upgrades to crossties, highway-rail grade crossings and bridges.
