Commissioner Langley took office on June 6, 2008, and her current term ends November 22, 2012.

Commissioner Langley brings 30 years of federal public service to the Commission as a leader in policy, regulatory, and legislative activities.  She was instrumental in the development and enactment of the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 and her counsel to Senator Daniel K. Akaka, the former chairman of the Senate postal subcommittee, provides her with a unique perspective and keen understanding of the Act, the U.S. Postal Service, and citizen and business mailers. She led the Commission’s first analysis of the effectiveness and efficiency of postal laws which was then submitted to the President and Congress.  During her appointment as Commissioner she has served two terms as Vice Chairman, most recently in 2012.

Prior to her appointment, Commissioner Langley served for 24 years as a senior legislative and policy counselor to two U.S. Senators from her home state of Hawaii. For 17 years she served Senator Akaka, nine of which as his Deputy Staff Director on subcommittees of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.  In addition to advising him on the U.S. Postal Service and the federal workforce, she worked on large-scale government transformations including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the reorganization of the U.S. Intelligence Community. Commissioner Langley has addressed diverse audiences on a variety of issues related to the U.S. Postal Service, federal workforce, and government management.  To recognize her extensive professional involvement and continued leadership in public administration, she was elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.  

A fourth-generation San Franciscan, Commissioner Langley was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and is a graduate of Punahou School and the University of Southern California. She and her husband are longtime residents of Virginia. Their son and daughter-in-law reside in Salt Lake City, Utah.
