Volunteerism

Older adults are in an excellent position to volunteer. Volunteering offers a range of opportunities for older adults to share their knowledge, skills and talents while staying socially and physically active.

Older volunteers have always been the backbone of programs administered under the Older Americans Act (OAA). Volunteers help in many ways, including assisting at group meal sites; delivering meals to the home-bound elderly; escorting and transporting frail older persons to their doctor’s office; and visiting homebound elderly in long term care facilities. To learn more about volunteering in OAA programs visit the Civic Engagement page on the Administration on Aging website.
