  4. Here is a status update from CAPT Roth, commanding officer, USS Harry S. Truman
Dear Families and Friends of TRUMAN,

You may have heard that three of our Sailors were injured when a line parted during a refueling at sea with USNS Patuxent (T-AO 201) off the coast of Florida. Thankfully, none of their injuries are life-threatening.

Our outstanding medical department was quick to respond to the accident. We were able to fly off two of the injured Sailors via Navy helicopt...
er to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, and the third was flown via C-2 Greyhound to Naval Station Norfolk for further evaluation.

Out of respect for our Shipmates and their families, I’d ask that you not speculate on the incident. A safety investigation into the occurrence has begun.

We take safety very seriously aboard TRUMAN, and although what we do as warfighters involves danger, we take aggressive steps to mitigate any hazards through deckplate leadership and the use of operational risk management.

Your Sailors are our priority, and we cannot conduct our mission without them. I am incredibly proud to serve alongside each of them as every one of your Sailors is important to our great ship and its success.

We have accomplished a lot during this underway. We’ve practiced many drills for our Tailored Ship’s Training Availability, and we’re on our way to our Final Evaluation Problem. With the Commander Carrier Strike Group (CSG) Ten, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) Three, along with its eight squadrons, and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 now embarked, Team TRUMAN has had the opportunity to work in an integrated environment that will better prepare us for future operations. Your Sailors have trained with passion, improved the condition of our ship, and demonstrated their great commitment to service.

Please keep our injured Shipmates and their families in your thoughts and prayers as we wish them a speedy recovery. Your TRUMAN Sailors are the best the Navy has to offer, and we’ll continue to focus on training, teamwork and mission accomplishment as we prepare for our upcoming deployment. We will be ready to GIVE ‘EM HELL!

I thank you all for your enduring love and support.

    Sincerely,
    Bob

    CAPT S. Robert Roth, USN
    Commanding Officer
USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75)
